03 / HOW TO CONVERT A P
How to Convert a PDF to Images
Upload a single PDF file up to 50 MB and 200 pages. The tool runs on our servers, not on your device, so you don't need to install anything.
Choose the output format: PNG for lossless images or JPEG for smaller files. Then pick a DPI between 72 and 300 (default 150) to set the resolution. For JPEG, you can also adjust quality between 40 and 95 (default 85).
Select the pages you want to convert. If you leave the selection empty, every page is rendered. After processing, you get a ZIP file containing the images, named page-0001, page-0002, and so on, so they sort correctly. If you select only one page, you receive a single image file.
04 / WHAT HAPPENS DURIN
What Happens During the Conversion
Once you upload your PDF, it is first scanned for malware before any processing begins. Only clean files proceed to the rasterizer.
The tool determines the file type by reading its actual content, not the file name. A file with a .pdf extension that isn't truly a PDF is rejected before any work starts.
The conversion engine renders each selected page at the resolution you specified. After rendering, the resulting image(s) are opened and parsed to verify they are valid before being offered for download. If a file is broken, the job fails rather than delivering a faulty image.
05 / CHOOSING THE RIGHT
Choosing the Right Format and DPI
PNG is lossless, making it ideal for text and line art where sharp edges matter. JPEG compresses more efficiently, so it is better for photographic pages and results in smaller file sizes.
The DPI setting determines the output resolution. 150 DPI is typically sufficient for viewing on screens. For printing or OCR purposes, 300 DPI provides much more detail, but be aware that a full 200-page document at 300 DPI will produce very large files.
06 / LIMITS AND CONSIDE
Limits and Considerations
Each job can process at most 200 pages. If you select more than 200 pages, the tool will refuse the job. Also, your upload must be a single PDF file and not exceed 50 MB.
The tool does not combine or merge PDFs; it only converts pages from one PDF at a time. It returns no warning codes, so if something goes wrong, you will simply see an error or the job will fail without a downloadable result.
07 / WHAT TO DO IF SOME
What to Do If Something Looks Wrong
If the output images look blurry or too large, lower the DPI if you only intend to view them online, or raise it if you need to print or read carefully.
If you intended to convert a document with text and want crisp edges, choose PNG to avoid compression artifacts. For photographs, JPEG offers similar quality at a fraction of the file size.
If your file is rejected, double-check that it is actually a valid PDF and that it meets the size and page limits. Renaming an unsupported file will not bypass the verification.
FAQ
Common questions
Does converting from PDF to JPEG lose quality?
JPEG is lossy, so some quality loss is possible, especially if you lower the quality setting. For text or line art, use PNG to avoid any loss. For photos, JPEG at default quality 85 usually looks excellent.
What is the best DPI for my PDF to image conversion?
For viewing on a screen, 150 DPI is enough. For printing or reading small text, use 300 DPI. Keep in mind that higher DPI produces larger files.
Can I convert just a few pages from a large PDF?
Yes, you can choose specific pages to convert. If you leave the page selection empty, all pages are converted.
Why did my job fail?
Your file may have been infected with malware, or it might not be a real PDF. Also, check that your file doesn't exceed 50 MB or that you haven't selected more than 200 pages.
What file types are supported?
This tool accepts only PDF files. The file type is checked by its content, not the file name, so renaming something to .pdf will not work.
Will my uploaded PDF be kept?
Uploaded files are stored temporarily in private object storage. They are deleted after 1 hour if you are anonymous, or after 7 days if you are signed in.
