03 / HOW TO CROP A PDF
How to Crop a PDF
Choose a PDF file from your computer. The tool accepts a single PDF up to 50 MB and up to 500 pages – these limits are checked locally before anything else runs.
You then set the four margins (top, right, bottom, left) in points. Each margin can be between 0 and 200 points. The tool enforces that the remaining page area is at least 72 by 72 points, so you can’t accidentally crop everything away.
No other settings exist. Once you initiate the crop, the tool processes the file in your browser and lets you download the result.
04 / WHAT HAPPENS TO YO
What Happens to Your File
Your PDF is never uploaded. The page’s code, running in your browser tab, performs all the work. Because nothing is sent to a server, nothing is stored anywhere.
The working copy exists only in memory while the tab is open. Closing the tab discards it. If you need the cropped file again later, you crop the original again – the tool doesn’t keep a copy.
05 / INSIDE THE CROP: N
Inside the Crop: No Rasterization
The crop is applied directly to the PDF’s page content, not by converting pages to images first. That means text stays selectable and vector graphics stay sharp.
Each page is trimmed by the same margin values you set. If your PDF has pages of varying sizes, the crop still applies the same margins to every page, which may produce unexpected white space or content cut-off on some pages – check the result carefully.
06 / WHAT THIS TOOL DOE
What This Tool Does Not Do
It does not let you choose different margins per page, remove specific pages, or rotate pages. It only crops uniformly across the entire document.
If a crop is rejected, the tool does not produce a downloadable file or a warning code. It simply refuses the operation, usually because a margin exceeds 200 points or the remaining area would be smaller than 72 by 72 points.
Because there is no upload, there is no server-side error log. If something seems wrong, the most likely cause is that your file exceeds the 50 MB or 500-page limit, which the tool checks before starting.
07 / WHEN THE RESULT LO
When the Result Looks Wrong
If the cropped PDF appears blank or missing content, double-check your margin values. A margin of 200 points is about 2.78 inches – if your original page is small, that can remove nearly everything.
If text or graphics are clipped unexpectedly, remember the crop is uniform. A page that is already offset within its bounds may lose content on one side even if your margins seem safe.
The tool does not show a visual preview before cropping. To test, start with small margins (like 10 points) and increase gradually until you get the result you want.
08 / ABOUT THE 50 MB AN
About the 50 MB and 500-Page Limits
These limits are checked in your browser before any processing. If your PDF exceeds either, the tool will not run. Reduce the file size or split the document if you need to crop a larger PDF.
The limits exist to keep the in-browser processing reliable. Since the tool does not upload the file, the work happens on your device, so larger files may take longer depending on your computer’s performance.
FAQ
Common questions
Will cropping my PDF reduce the quality of text?
No. The crop is performed on the PDF’s content without rasterizing the pages. Text remains text and vector images stay vector, so there is no quality loss from the cropping itself.
Can I crop different margins on different pages?
No. The tool applies the same margin values to every page in the file. If you need per-page margins, you would have to split the PDF and crop each part separately.
What file size and page count are supported?
Each PDF file can be up to 50 MB and up to 500 pages. These limits are checked in your browser before processing begins.
What does the 72 by 72 point rule mean?
It means the cropped page area must be at least 72 points wide and 72 points tall. One point is 1/72 of an inch, so the smallest allowed cropped page is 1 inch by 1 inch. If your margins would leave less than that, the crop is refused.
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser tab. Your file is never uploaded, so nothing is stored on a server. The working copy disappears when you close the tab.
Why did my crop fail without any error message?
If the tool refuses the crop, it is likely because one of your margins is above 200 points or the remaining area is smaller than 72 by 72 points. There is no warning code; the tool simply does not produce a result.
Can I undo a crop after I download the file?
No. The tool does not store copies of your file, so if you crop and download, the original is unchanged on your computer. You can always crop the original PDF again with different margins.
